Sarah Dessen Summer // A Readathon + Giveaway

Welcome to my first ever readathon! I am super excited to see an idea I’ve had in my head for a while come to life this summer (even if I’m the only one that ends up doing it).

If you couldn’t guess from the title, I am planning on doing a Sarah Dessen reading summer. I have been wanting to re-read her books for the longest time since I read my first Sarah Dessen book in middle school. Now that I’m in college, I want to see how my views of her books might change. Normally, I don’t re-read books, but I’m going to make an exception this summer. And I wanted you to join me!

I have put together a schedule of which books I’m planning to read when this summer if you wanted to follow along with me. Feel free to read in whatever order you want to and/or pick and choose to join in on certain books. I definitely know that contemporary books are not for everyone.

Each week (on Saturday) I will post a review of the chosen Sarah Dessen book for everyone to join in on discussion with! Over on Instagram, I will have discussion posts on Friday or Saturday for people to join in on as well. On Twitter, I will most likely be live-tweeting my reactions to the books. I will be posting with #sdessensummer to keep everything together! Make sure to follow the hashtag on Instagram and Twitter for updates and discussions.

Without further ado… the schedule!

Week of May 27 (next week!): That Summer

Week of June 3: Someone Like You

Week of June 10: This Lullaby

Week of June 17: The Truth About Forever

Week of June 24: Dreamland

Week of July 1: Along for the Ride

Week of July 8: Keeping the Moon

Week of July 15: The Moon and More

Week of July 22: What Happened to Goodbye

Week of July 29: Saint Anything

Week of August 5: Just Listen

Week of August 12: Lock and Key

Week of August 19: Once and For All

This may seem overwhelming at first glance, but there will be an entire week to read one book before discussions begin. You can read at your pace and join discussions at any moment!

The fun part, however, comes in with the giveaway! I really wanted to share some fun summer and Sarah Dessen vibes, so I did some shopping. For the giveaway, I have a variety of ways to enter from following on social media to posting reviews! You do not have to have a blog either to post a review. The review can be on Twitter, Instagram, Amazon, Goodreads, etc.

For the giveaway package, I have the following:

  • Dreamland paperback
  • That Summer paperback
  • Sunglasses
  • Water bottle
  • $10 Starbucks gift card

Unfortunately, due to the size of the giveaway (and lack of money I have) the giveaway will be US only. I still would love to encourage my international readers to join in on the readings, discussions, and fun! The giveaway will run from May 27 to August 29.

  1. I have never read Sarah Dessen before (I KNOW I KNOW, I’m sorry) and this is such a great way to do so. I have too many books to read at the moment but i’m definitely adding them to my TBR after seeing this.

I see that you’re reading The Sisterhood Series by Ann Brashares which is one of my all-time favourites.

    Enjoy your re-reads xx

    1. I am absolutely loving the Sisterhood Series, and I just finished the third book. I’m excited to read book four in which I will be the same age as the girls! I think there’s only five books which makes me sad that I’m almost done with the series.

Let me know what you think of the Sarah Dessen books you read. I will be posting updated reviews every week on the blog, so you can get a better feel of which ones you might want to prioritize. ❤
